Iyengar Yoga in Scotland is 50
The first Iyengar Yoga classes in Scotland were taught at the Edinburgh University Yoga Society in 1974 so 2024 marks our 50th anniversary! Set up by Bob and Kathy Welham, who studied directly under BKS Iyengar in the UK and in India, the EUYS was immediately popular with waiting lists for classes. The couple went on to train many teachers, some of whom still teach today. The popularity of the classes spread beyond Edinburgh, sowing the seeds of the rich community of Iyengar Yoga in Scotland.
