Edinburgh was one of those places in the UK blessed by the dropping of the amrta of Guruji’s teachings from the very early days. Our auspicious year was 1974. In October of that year, Scotland’s first introduction to Iyengar Yoga came when the Edinburgh University Yoga Society (EUYS) was started up.
After more than 40 years of dedicated involvement in the UK Iyengar Yoga Association, Elaine has retired from her various roles to spend more time with her husband Trevor and her family.
We are deeply sad to say that our dear friend and yogini, Meg Laing, died on 5 January 2023. Meg was one of the pioneers of the early, heady days of Iyengar yoga in Edinburgh – she started in Oxford as a student in 1972 and went on her first visit to Pune in 1977, when she was only 23.
IY(UK) teachers represent Iyengar yoga at a growing number of festivals around the UK and Ireland every year, from the Hay literary festival to music festivals and even a beer festival!
Saturday 19 January 2019 was the fourth National Iyengar Yoga Day, with more than 75 events around the UK and Ireland organised by IY(UK) teachers, Member Groups and Affiliated Centres.
On 13 January Institutes, Affiliated Centres and Teachers in the UK and Ireland organised events around the country in celebration of Iyengar yoga for the third National Iyengar Yoga Day.
